Electrical Components & Safety Controls
Wiring connections, the limit switch, the flame sensor, and the pressure switch are all tested. A flame sensor coated with oxidation won’t read the burner flame correctly, which leads to a safety lockout or short cycling (where the system starts and stops in rapid, repeated bursts instead of completing a normal heating cycle). The Efficiency Checks: What Keeps the System Running Right

The burners and blower motor assembly are cleaned of dust and debris that accumulate during months of storage. The air filter is checked and replaced if it’s due, and ductwork is inspected for leaks or blockages that restrict airflow to parts of the home. Poor airflow forces the furnace to run longer cycles to reach the thermostat’s target, which adds up over a full heating season. Thermostat calibration is also verified so the system is responding to accurate temperature readings rather than running on a sensor that’s slightly off.
